History
Established in 1992 in Basle, Switzerland as a spin-off company of Prognos AG Symbios firstly focused on providing consultancy services for purpose-built properties.
Over the next few years the company started to focus on airports and projects in the transportation sector. As a result the company's two subdivisions "Venues" and "Mobility" were set up.
As an addition to providing classical consultancy services, the company enhanced its strategy in the year 1995. The idea was to provide clients with a highly flexible strategic software system that is able to react to changes in the fast-growing business environment of the aviation industry.
With "LUPRO*FRA", the first software project was accomplished for Frankfurt International Airport, being the basis for the later "Symbios Airport Management Systems".
With the ongoing expansion of projects in Germany, the company moved its headquarters to Karlsruhe, Germany in the year 2001. This location was chosen not only for its strategic position close to Frankfurt but also for the proximity of the Technical University of Karlsruhe, one of Germany's elite institutions.
In the meantime both subdivisions "Mobility" and "Venues" continued to evolve significantly both in terms of projects and personnel.
In 2005, Symbios accomplished another highly important milestone in its company history with the release of the "Airport Management System", an integrated tool to support demand oriented traffic forecasting, capacity planning and revenue modelling. As a result Symbios achieved world-wide innovation and market leadership in the field of airport planning and management systems.
With the ongoing expansion of the European Union to the east, Symbios established the new subdivision "Funding" in 2004. The goal is to support clients especially from new EU member states to acquire funds of the European Communities for infrastructure projects.
One of Symbios' most important goals is the ongoing expansion on growing international markets. Thus, over the next years the focus will be on creating projects not only in Europe and North America, but also in emerging economies in Asia, Latin America and Africa.
