History

Founded in 1992 in Basle as a spin-off company of Prognos AG, Symbios concentrated on the area of purpose-built properties as a consultant.

The next few years saw an increased emphasis on airports and projects in the transportation sector. This came about as a result of synergies and overlaps in terms of content in the areas "venues" and "mobility".

Alongside the classical studies and expert's opinions, a new company strategy was given priority as from 1995: customers were now offered strategically orientated business software tools which they could actively apply and maintain and which reflected the short-lived change in the industry and changing outline conditions.

It was the software project "LUPRO*FRA" for Frankfurt Airport that ultimately laid the foundation for the current division, Symbios Systems, in 1995.

Against the background of continuous expansion of its customer portfolio toward Germany, Symbios AG was founded in Karlsruhe in 2001.

As well as the strategically favourable location, the proximity of the Technical University Karlsruhe, today one of Germany's elite universities was the decisive factor to establish the company's headquarters in Karlsruhe.

Over the next few years, the mobility and venues divisions continued to develop - both in terms of personnel and content.

Since 2005, in addition to the classic project business, Symbios AG has been able to establish System Products in the market; in particular through the development of the Airport Management System. Further, the company was able to achieve world-wide innovation and market leadership in the field of airport planning and management systems.

Since 2004 the east expansion of the European Union, a further central service field was developed in the mobility division, providing support for acquisitions and administration of EU funding.

The continued international development of the company is of primary concern with regard to Symbios AG's future company strategy.
The groundwork for this will be created as from the end of 2008 through the founding of Symbios China Ltd and the opening of the Beijing branch office.
